The inspiration of this post came about when one of our artists discussed on our Facebook Fan Page wall the packaging she had seen at our 12th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Thanksgiving Weekend Art Festival last weekend.

Here is a question we would like to ask you:

How do you package your work once it is sold?

As we have always stated, everything matters. And by everything, we mean: artwork, booth display, how you engage yourself with customers, how you market and promote your work & packaging.

Packaging can be used as a means of advertising yourself! For example:

Packaging from Artists: Arleen & Michael Parker

Even though it was simple, you can tell Arleen & Michael Parker take pride in their jewelry. They beautifully wrapped a pair of earrings and included their business card. This is what we mean be promoting yourself in any way possible! The inclusion of their business card will allow the customer to contact them for more jewelry!

    I realize this post is a few days old, but I felt I needed to chime in on this in case I can help someone else who is looking for a solution for 2D art packaging. I sell photography and package the canvases sold off my display walls either in large clear plastic bags (with cardboard corners added to the canvas) or large foam pouches. The nice thing about the foam pouches is that I use them to protect and transport my work between shows. My smallest items go into colorful lightweight merchandise bags (links provided below).

    It always astounds me to see other 2D artists packaging their customer purchases in garbage bags. I can’t imagine a person paying me hundreds of dollars for a print, then me handing it to them in a garbage bag. My work isn’t garbage! It certainly isn’t garbage to that customer that just paid me for it.

    I understand that it is an expense to purchase proper packaging, but if you consider what an individual bag costs, it’s not that much to have a professional appearance and make your work look great even after the sale.
