Being a working artist in itself is a huge gift these days, but doing art for over 50 years must bring a lifetime of immeasurable joy. That’s the kind of joy that Sharon Kusha, Impressionist painter, mixed media abstract artist, gets to experience today.
From a very young age, Sharon knew she’d be an artist and now, decades later, this veteran of the visual arts is sharing her extraordinary talents with Fort Lauderdale and helping us kick off 2014 as our Featured Artist for the Las Olas Art Fair, happening Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4-5, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. All ages are welcome and admission is free, which gives you plenty of reasons to spend some time getting to know our wonderful participating artists, including Kusha.
Sharon Kusha: North and South
Born in Pensacola, Sharon actually first discovered her artistic tendencies as a young girl growing up in Connecticut. At the age of five, Sharon carried around a paper and pencil, waiting for inspiration to strike at any moment. Decades later, inspiration and creativity still flow, as evidenced by her expansive and thoroughly fun body of work. From pretty Key West houses to lush tropical landscapes, her pieces highlight her free spirit, her love of art and her love of the Florida area where she now lives.
Sharon’s professional journey actually began up north, where she attended the School of Visual Art in New York City. She then moved to Newtown, CT., where she started Sharon Design, her very own graphic design company. However, it was her time in South Florida years later, particularly her time in Key West, that sparked her love of South Florida landscapes and scenery, specifically Key West locations that inspired her. One of her most popular paintings, “Five Key West Houses” sold immediately – both the original and the limited reproduction run.
Commemorative Paintings and Art Collections
Sharon Kusha’s breathtaking art has inspired several Florida art festivals to commission her to create commemorative posters for the shows, and this year’s Las Olas Art Fair is one of those fortunate shows. Her piece, “The Riverside on Las Olas,” is her 14th commemorative poster, and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful ones. The primary muse for many an art collection, Sharon paints pieces that are colorful, uniquely personal and so much fun, a tell-tale sign that fun is at the center of every piece she paints.
“I love the movement and color that fills the canvas,” says Sharon in her artist statement. “I have fun painting and enjoy the creativeness involved.” She currently works out of her DeLand studio in Florida and travels throughout the country.
