Shadyside

The whole family can enjoy some art and culture when the 17th Annual Shadyside…The Art Festival on Walnut Street returns to Shadyside this weekend. This delightful event, which started out as a humble street fair, has become the prevailing summer art event at Shadyside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s this Saturday and Sunday, August 23rd and 24th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and taking place along Walnut Street, between South Aiken Avenue and South Negley Avenue. The public can easily stroll through the exhibits and meet the artists. Explore unique works of art at this fun outdoor art festival, hosted by the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce. Admission is free and open to the public.

Luisa Velasquez GiveawayLuisa Velasquez, the Featured Artist of the event, will be giving away an original mixed media 3D canvas painting. This stunning piece, titled “Flor Roja” (Red Flower), measures 24” x 24” and is valued at $580. It incorporates a Fresco technique with patina layered on for a naturally aged effect. Each Flor is cured to a glass-like finish. In describing her unique style, Luisa states, “I try to connect aesthetics in people’s environment—whether man made, naturally occurring, or in a state of flux where one is devouring the other. My paintings are studies in color, movement, texture, and emotion.” Stop by her booth to register for the art giveaway. No purchase is necessary to participate and the winner will be announced during the final hour of the festival. To learn more about Luisa and her art, visit her website.
